The Power of Prayer in Guatemala

During one of the days in the art school, one of the guys (Phil) on our trip had the chance to share some stories about his life. He was very transparent in both sharing some of both the ups and downs of his pursuit of Jesus and what has happened along the way.

During his story, he shared that 8 years ago he lost his hearing completely in his right ear. And while he went to specialists, hospitals, and a number of experts no one was ever able to give a clear answer or help to gain any of his hearing back in that ear.

Such a powerful story, yet how the response was even more profound. Upon hearing this, one of the young men, no older than 8 or 9 years old asked if he could pray for Phil. Then another one of the little boys asked to join him. The scene that followed was one of powerful prayer of children over this grown man 2-3 times their size. Their faith that Jesus could actually bring healing to Phil was profound, refreshing, and convicting!

It's hard to describe from the states but while I wasn't able to capture the whole time of prayer for Phil (worst time for the battery to die!), watch some of it in the quick video below.

Each of us on the team were overwhelmed and could hardly utter a word. Afterwards Carlos, director of the art school, wept as he shared with us that he has never seen his children engage this way desiring to pray for someone like this. The faith that some of these children have is so moving.

Above is a picture of Angel, one of the boys we support. (Picture taken by Jena Osbon).
