We will be looking through the biblical narrative at God's heart for creation and what he has called us to in being loving stewards of creation. Many people see being "green" as the new, edgy, sexy thing to be involved in. We will look at how this has been central to the heart of God for humanity from the beginning of creation.
Starting in Genesis 1 and moving through the Scriptures to Revelation 21 we will see how creation has been moving from a garden to a gardened city. God's heart for creation has always been for us as humans to cultivate it. This cultivation is to take place within the context of loving stewardship-serving and protecting that which God has created to reveal him.
At one point in human history, God entered into his broken creation, becoming one of us. God became a part of his physical creation by taking on the form of humanity in Jesus. The incarnation is an affirmation of the goodness of creation and God's desire to heal the brokenness of all creation.
The Sunday morning teaching will end with a look at Luke 24 and how the resurrection of Christ is the first-fruits of a new creation. We will explore how Jesus wants to open our eyes to see him anew and how he is inviting us to join him in bringing new creation now. Because we have the mind of Christ, we have a prophetic imagination in him that we can rely on to push us forward into thinking creatively about new and innovative ways to care for God's good creation and bring healing wherever we find brokenness.
We are called to be a people of hope and it is only through our hope in Christ that new creation is possible. May we fully embrace the mind of Christ and the movement of his Spirit in us to restore a broken and groaning creation.
