Purposes of Marriage
Posted January 11, 2010 by Dave Combs

Marriage is the symbolic relationship of Christ’s commitment to His church.
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. - Ephesians 5:23

To be a covenant relationship to bring glory to God.
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. - Genesis 2:24

To help each other in obedient service to the Lord.
And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” - Genesis 2:18

But seek firrst his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. - Matthew 6:33

For making us more like Christ.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. - Ephesians 5:25-27

To bear and raise children to know and follow Jesus.
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the
training and admonition of the Lord. - Ephesians 6:4
