Located about 45 minutes outside of Guatemala City in an area of extreme poverty, Love Guatemala began as a vision by a Guatemalan couple, Carlos and Thelma Lopez, to love their community through the gift of art. They began the art school with no resources and just 3 students. Through the continued support of Indy Metro Church and the dream of a young girl they also started a cooking school and later a carpentry school. These schools later formed what is now called Love Guatemala.
What started as a trip from our church in 2009 turned into a great movement of people across the country coming alongside to support, encourage and fuel some very burdened people in Guatemala to love their community. Love Guatemala has also added an English School and is now in a new 10,500 square foot facility which gives them the ability to continue to expand and start new vocational schools.
In 2012, we sent Pastor Ben Kunkel and his family to serve full-time in Guatemala. Each year, we send several teams from Indy Metro on week-long missions trips to serve the Love Guatemala team in Magdalena.
